Since 2022, Unisteel has grown to become a strategic hub for precision manufacturing in India. From there, we supply our customers in the electrical and electronics industries as well as industrial manufacturing throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The recent expansion of our Kanagala site sends a clear signal for local innovation and underscores our commitment to short delivery routes and customer-oriented growth.

Local-for-local on a large scale
As part of the SFS Group, Unisteel is promoting the local-for-local approach in the Asia-Pacific region. The team in Pune (India) started with around 50 employees in 2022 and initially focused on core technologies such as cold forming, CNC machining, and customer-specific surface treatments.

Within just a few years, the second Indian location in Kanagala has grown to over 200 specialists who deliver both standard and highly customized solutions for the electrical and electronics industry, industrial manufacturing, and other end markets with precision products. This growth demonstrates our commitment to customer proximity, fast delivery, and local innovation. At the same time, it enables Unisteel to meet growing demand in India while maintaining global quality standards.

Investing in the future
To meet growing demand, SFS is investing more than 2 billion rupees, or over EUR 20 million, in the new plant in Kanagala, creating more than 800 jobs and expanding the Unisteel team in Asia as a whole to over 1,100 employees. The site is designed for rapid commissioning and scalable production. With the new plant, we are supporting the Indian government’s “Make-in-India” initiative while advancing our goals in the areas of sustainability and innovation.

Milestones along the way

March 2022: Inauguration of Unisteel’s first production site in India
April 2024: Delivery of the first production batch for customer qualification
December 2024: Implementation of end-to-end delivery processes
June 2025: Successful qualification for product launch (NPI) in a new smartphone generation
December 2025: Planned start of series production in Kanagala

While smartphones remain the focus, the SFS Group is actively expanding in India into the areas of smart glasses and watches, electrical appliances, and video surveillance. We are leveraging our expertise in precision engineering to serve additional industries. By combining advanced technologies – including precision metal stamping, cold forming, CNC machining, and wire forming – with a deep understanding of our customers, Unisteel delivers customized solutions in India that meet the stringent global standards of the automotive industry, industrial manufacturing, and other high-precision markets.
