The increasing demand for totally sealed threaded fasteners has persuaded GESIPA^® to search for improvements in their manufacturing processes. This was particularly vital to keep GESIPA^®'s largest UK customer on side.

The starting position

SFS has been looking for an optimised production process in terms of cost and timing for sealed threaded fasteners produced at its Riveting division (GESIPA®) since 2017. After analysing many options, the technical experts from SFS, Switzerland and GESIPA® came to the conclusion that the best way forward was to apply the required thread sealing in-house to achieve the optimum outcome for both the customer and their own company. A decision made just in time: because when a competitor proved unable to meet the requested sealing needs, the innovative G-Sealed® solution as well as the proposal for the process to be implemented in-house at GESIPA® in Keighley, Great Britain convinced the major British customer.

From concept to component

The project started in October 2017 and thanks to transnational teamwork between SFS, Switzerland and GESIPA® was completed in just twelve months. The two new required machines were delivered to the Keighley, Great Britain and set up.

In order to get the new G-Sealed® facilities up and running as quickly as possible, Roland Marth, Team Leader for spedcaps® and Andreas Hohl, Technical Services Manager for control techniques at SFS in Switzerland accompanied the transfer to oversee and support the initial-phase. This meant that the GESIPA® Team in Keighley could be thoroughly trained and final tests on the manufacture of fasteners with thread sealant and inspection of the seal strength achieved in fastener connections could be completed in the shortest possible time.

Many application areas

G-Sealed® can be applied to truss head fasteners, including those with additional under-head nuts, as well as hexagonal blind rivet nuts and blind rivet studs, without negatively influencing the fasteners’ performance. Rather, the fasteners are water-tight immediately after treatment. On both metallic and non-metallic surfaces, G-Sealed® provides a dry, non-hazardous, flexible coating that gives good adhesion to the sealing face.

Thanks to their excellent thermal and chemical stability, GESIPA® G-Sealed® treated fasteners are not only suitable for automotive applications: they can be used in all sorts of industrial applications such as truck electronic systems or household appliances.
