Technology meets architecture at the cutting edge

A pavilion that heals, connects and inspires: Under the motto “Human Regeneration,” Belgium will showcase its strengths in life sciences and sustainable change at Expo 2025 in Osaka (Japan). Among the displays will be BELEXPO, an interactive exhibition and an architectural statement full of technical finesse. SFS is supplying the perfect façade solution – precise, flexible and reusable. The project shows how innovation and design go hand in hand.

The Belgian pavilion’s theme is “Human Regeneration,” with a focus on prevention, healing and reconstruction. Belgium is presenting itself as a global center for vaccine development – from research to worldwide distribution. The pavilion’s organically designed architecture visually reflects this life science ecosystem.

Appropriate color scheme for the façade
The architectural firm Carré 7 was commissioned to design the Belgian pavilion for Expo 2025. The façade cladding not only had to have a precisely defined color scheme, but also had to be concealed. With Rockpanel as the material supplier and Carré 7 having a specific color scheme in mind, a fastening system was needed that was both technically and aesthetically convincing – SFS was the first choice.

In addition to the design requirements, the planned reusability of the pavilion also presented a challenge. After the Expo, the building is to be reassembled in Belgium and used as a permanent exhibition in the future. This required a solution that would allow complete dismantling and reuse. We supplied the appropriate vertical aluminum substructure, which allows easy installation and precise positioning of the façade panels, even on uneven surfaces.

The organically shaped architecture with rounded corners presented additional technical challenges for everyone involved in the project. Thanks to the early involvement of SFS in the planning phase, various options were able to be developed, tested and checked for their feasibility. This made it possible to successfully combine the design specifications with a functional, easy-to-install solution.

Removable and easy to install
Thanks to the use of lightweight materials and prefabricated, modular system components, the system can be installed quickly and easily. The mechanical façade system can be adjusted in several directions, ensuring a slim, precise appearance. The aluminum corner brackets with a “helping hand” offer an adjustment range of up to 40 mm, allowing unevenness in the substrate to be easily compensated. At the same time, the precise-fitting corner solution enables the façade surfaces to be connected seamlessly, even with different wind directions.

Working in close collaboration with its partners, SFS made use of its technical expertise and problem-solving skills to make an important contribution to the success of the pavilion. It combines innovation, sustainability and architectural quality in a unique way. We are grateful to have been able to participate in this project.
